چکیده

Transient global amnesia (TGA) is characterized by anterograde memory disturbance of sudden onset that lasts for 1 to 24 hours. Orientation in space and time is impaired while consciousness remains undisturbed. T r a n s i e n t d i f f u s i o n w e i g h t e d imaging abnormalities involving the hippocampus as wel l as s tressful s i tuations precipitat ing Transient Global Amnesia have been described earlier.1,2

Bilateral hippocampal abnormalities on diffusion-weighted MRI in transient global amnesia: report of a case.

The pathophysiology of transient global amnesia (TGA) is still speculative. Recently, diffusion-weighted image (DWI) of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) documented tiny lesions in the hippocampus of patients with TGA in the acute stage. Most studies reported unilateral lesions on MRI. We present one patient of TGA with high signal-intensity lesions in bilateral hippocampus on DWI at the acute s...

Bilateral Hippocampus Changes on MRI in Transient Global Amnesia

Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is a dynamic condition. An undefined event causes anterograde amnesia (sometimes with retrograde amnesia) that lasts in a day and preserves of self-identity and of consciousness. Epilepsy, migraine and ischemic events are the possible causes for different hypothesis but still unproven. Sixty three years old woman admitted to emergency department because of amnesia...

Lack of evidence for arterial ischemia in transient global amnesia.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Lesions in diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI-L) have been commonly described in transient global amnesia (TGA). We investigated a possible relationship between brain ischemia and TGA. METHODS Twenty-eight patients underwent transcranial and carotid Doppler ultrasonography (including microembolus detection) and MRI within 24 hours of TGA onset (including DWI, perfusion-wei...

Ischemic Evidence of Transient Global Amnesia: Location of the Lesion in the Hippocampus

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a rare amnestic syndrome characterized by the sudden onset of a selective anterograde and retrograde amnesia with a time course of up to 24 hours. Recent studies have found a high frequency of small high-signal abnormalities in the hippocampus on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and accordingly ischemia has been proposed as an etiology o...

Transient global amnesia: hippocampal magnetic resonance imaging abnormalities.

Transient global amnesia (TGA) is an episodic dysfunction of declarative memory that usually resolves within 12 hours and whose underlying pathophysiological mechanisms are still unclear. Recent studies, on the basis of transient focal high-signal abnormalities in the hippocampus on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), suggest involvement of memory circuits in the temporo-mesial region. Out of a t...
